phancy.com notes: Not as funny and smart as it thinks it is, but it's still OK. I like the premise, but felt every aspect needed a little more juice. However, Samara Weaving's performance is always worth watching. Her 100% commitment to gonzo roles has made worse movies tolerable.

3 out of 4 stars - rogerebert.com

Weaving's expressiveness lends her plight instant pathos and Brody, who's been one of America's best character actors for over a decade, slowly pulling back from the rest of the clan, plays nicely against the bug-eyed fervor of the rest of the Le Domas' brood. By the time the games come to an end, Ready or Not has ceased to be about the rich and the poor. It's about a girl trying to survive a violent ordeal, which is potent enough for the moment you're watching the film, but in a climate in which politics can pull a film from a release schedule, now is not the time to hide.

Grade: B- - Ready Or Not, here comes an entertainingly gruesome evisceration of the 1%

As a blackly comic satire of immoral one-percenters, Ready Or Not is not particularly insightful (another sample barb: "Fucking rich people!"), and not especially witty. It's the kind of genre movie that seems to think that its characters sputtering out profanities is, on some level, a transgressive act unto itself, and that the gruesome slapstick of its death scenes are just crimson-hued gravy. But the filmmakers do have a clever idea about how to level the playing field when the hunt begins: The Le Domas family may be wealthy, powerful, evil, and ruthless, but they are also pointedly, sometimes fatally incompetent. This planned sacrifice is only an occasional ritual, which means they're rusty on the specifics. Collectively, they spend a lot of time arguing over which rules of the tradition are truly necessary (are only old-timey weapons allowable? What about surveillance cameras?) and YouTubing instructional crossbow videos.
